Problems with Focus Session website blocking

Your web browser gets "stuck" blocking distracting websites, even after the Focus Session ends:

Force-quit RescueTime by using Task Manager or Activity Monitor and restart the app manually from your Start Menu or Launchpad.

Websites are not being blocked during a Focus Session:

macOS users should fix their permissions to allow Focus Sessions.

Note: If you are using Firefox on macOS, you will need the Firefox browser extension for Focus Sessions to block websites.

A site that should be blocked isn't:

RescueTime blocks websites visited in the last three months that have been scored as "Personal" or "Distracting" either by you or as its default setting.

If you see a site not being blocked that you think should be, first check your Activities page and make sure the site is listed in the column under Personal or Distracting.

To locate the site, you may need to adjust the date controls and look further back in time.

If you still don’t see it, there are two possibilities:

  1. The site is categorized as something other than "Distracting" or "Personal."
  2. You haven’t visited the site in the past three months.

If it’s the second case, the site should be blocked the next time you start a Focus Session since you recently visited it. Otherwise, you can change the site’s productivity rating to Distracting or Personal on your Activities page.
