Understanding your work settings

What you'll learn

Managing your Work Settings

When you sign up for RescueTime, your responses in the onboarding survey help set up your initial Work Settings. You can review and update these settings at any time from your  Account Settings page. Your Work Settings include your Work Profile and Work Schedule, both of which play a key role in how your reports are displayed and how your Assistant guides you through your day.

Work Profile

Your Work Profile is based on details like your  work status and organization size, which help RescueTime calculate your personalized Focus Work goal. You can learn more about how your Focus Work goal is set here.

These settings are pre-filled from your onboarding survey, but you can update them anytime in your Work Settings.

Work Schedule

Your work schedule determines when the Assistant is in Work Mode or Recharge Time.

  • Outside of your work hours, work activities will not count toward your Focus Work goal. If you want this time counted, click the "Back to Work" button in the Assistant.

Work Schedule and Goals

Below are the settings you can manage in your Work Settings:

  • Target work week
Set your ideal number of work hours per week. This number also helps RescueTime recommend a Focus Work goal that fits your schedule.
  • Daily Focus Work goal
Your daily goal for Focus Work can be set in two ways:
    •  Automatic: RescueTime calculates your goal based on your work status, organization size, and target work week.
    •  Manual: You can set your own goal (between 1-6 hours) by clicking the edit icon.
Your Focus Work goal appears as a progress bar in the Assistant, letting you know when you’ve reached your target each day.
  • Recommended daily break time
By default, RescueTime recommends 2 hours of break time each workday. You can adjust this number to suit your needs (up to 8 hours). Learn more about controlling your break time here.
  • Work week start day
Choose whether your work week begins on Sunday or Monday. Your weekly report will be sent based on this selection.
  • Preferred time format
Select between a 12-hour or 24-hour time format. This setting will also be reflected in your work schedule display.
  • Daily report delivery time
Set the time you'd like to receive your end-of-day report alert in the Assistant.
