How to do a Complete Reinstallation of RescueTime

A complete reinstallation removes RescueTime entirely, including its configuration files, and installs a fresh copy.

This can resolve persistent issues that a simple restart or update doesn't fix.

Uninstall RescueTime

Open the Start menu, right-click RescueTime, and choose Uninstall. Or open Control Panel → Uninstall a program, select RescueTime, and click Uninstall. This removes the app and all its configuration files.

Restart your computer

Download and reinstall

Download the latest version, then open the installer from your Downloads folder and follow the setup steps.

Sign in

Sign in to the Assistant with your RescueTime account email and password.


macOS

Quit RescueTime

Right-click the RescueTime icon in your menu bar and choose Quit.

Move RescueTime to the Trash

Open Finder → Applications, find RescueTime, and drag it to the Trash.

Remove configuration files

Delete RescueTime's configuration files to fully remove the app from your computer.

In Finder, hold Option and click Go in the menu bar, then select Library.

Find the RescueTime folder and drag it to the Trash.

Restart your computer

Download and reinstall

Download the latest version, unzip it, and drag the RescueTime app into your Applications folder.

Open RescueTime

Open RescueTime from your Applications folder and choose Open when macOS asks if you want to allow an app downloaded from the internet.

Sign in

Sign in to the Assistant with your RescueTime account email and password.

Multiple RescueTime accounts? Sign in with the email address linked to the account you want to use on this computer. If you accidentally connect the wrong account, see Signing Into a Different Account to switch.
