Office 365/Outlook Calendar Integration

Connecting your Office 365 or Outlook Calendar gives RescueTime a full picture of your day alongside your tracked time.

Once connected, your meetings appear in the Assistant and daily summaries of your logged time are added directly to your calendar.

Setup

Connect your Outlook Calendar

1

Open Calendar Integration settings

Go to Account Settings → Calendar Integration and click Add a new calendar, then choose Outlook Calendar.

3

Grant permissions

You'll be asked to grant RescueTime access to your calendar. These permissions are required to create the dedicated RescueTime calendar where your daily summaries are posted.

RescueTime will never add, edit, or delete anything from your existing calendars. The integration will not work if these permissions are not granted.

4

Enable the RescueTime calendar

Once connected, open your Office 365 Calendar and refresh the page. A RescueTime calendar will appear under My calendars in the bottom left. Click the checkbox next to it to show it in your calendar view.

Using the Integration

Daily summaries

RescueTime adds a summary event to your calendar each day, showing your total logged time and time spent in meetings. To see the full breakdown, click the timer or calendar emoji on the summary event, then click the expand arrow.

Each summary includes:

Total time logged

All time RescueTime tracked for the day.

Total time in meetings

Time spent in calendar meetings that day.

Daily Focus Work goal

Whether you hit your Focus Work goal for the day.

Today's summary isn't available until tomorrow. The current day's summary appears once the day has ended.

Troubleshooting

Summaries aren't showing in my calendar

Open the calendar integration settings, click the gear icon, select Settings, and click Regenerate Summaries. This regenerates your summaries for the last 7 days.

RescueTime isn't recognizing my meetings correctly

This usually happens when your RescueTime account email doesn't match your Outlook email address. You can fix individual events with calendar hashtags:

Add #notameeting to the title or description of an event RescueTime is incorrectly treating as a meeting.

Add #meeting to the title or description of a meeting RescueTime isn't acknowledging.

See calendar hashtags for the full list.

Alternatively, update your RescueTime account email address to match your Outlook address to fix the issue across all events.

Disconnect

Disconnect your Outlook Calendar from RescueTime

All steps are required to fully disconnect your calendar.

1

Remove the calendar in RescueTime

Go to Calendar Integration settings, click the gear icon, and select Remove calendar.

Select Remove.

All three steps are required. Skipping any step leaves a partial connection in place. If you plan to reconnect later, you'll need to complete the full disconnect first.
