RescueTime Timesheets Glossary
RescueTime Timesheets glossary
This glossary defines the key terms used in RescueTime Timesheets and how they work together.
Timeline
The timeline is your main workspace in Timesheets.
It provides a visual view of your day, showing your activity, suggested time, and any time you’ve already assigned to projects. You can review, edit, and add time directly from the timeline.
Project
A project is the primary way you organize your time.
Projects represent the work you do, such as client work, internal initiatives, or personal projects. All time in Timesheets is assigned to a project.
Projects can include tasks, clients, billable settings, and optional time targets.
Client
A client is an optional way to group related projects.
If you work with multiple clients, each client can contain several projects. Clients help organize your timeline and reports, but are not required.
Task
A task is a smaller unit of work within a project.
Tasks help break projects into more specific pieces of work. They are optional and mainly used for more detailed tracking and reporting.
Time Block
A time block is a segment of time on your timeline that has been assigned to a project (and optionally a task).
Time blocks are created when you accept suggestions or manually assign time.
Bucket
A bucket is a 5-minute segment of activity grouped by what you were primarily doing during that time.
Buckets appear when you click on the timeline. They show the underlying apps and websites used during that period and allow you to assign that time to a project.
Buckets provide a more detailed view than time blocks and are useful for making precise edits.
Suggestion
A suggestion or autocompletion is a proposed time block created by RescueTime based on your activity.
Suggestions appear on your timeline marked for review. You can accept, edit, or remove them before they’re added to your timesheet.
Suggestions can be generated using:
- Your past history (learned patterns)
- AI-based analysis
You can choose how suggestions are generated in your Timesheets settings.
Hint
A hint is a keyword or identifier that helps RescueTime match your activity to the correct project.
Hints can include things like:
- App names
- File names
- Websites
Hints are optional but improve the accuracy of suggestions, especially if you use the same tools across multiple projects.
Activity
Activity refers to the apps and websites you use throughout your day.
This data is collected by RescueTime and used to build your timeline, buckets, and suggestions.
Reviewed Time
Reviewed time is time that you’ve confirmed by accepting or editing suggestions.
Depending on your report settings, you can choose to include only reviewed time in your exports.
Billable Time
Billable time is time assigned to projects marked as billable.
You can set hourly rates for these projects and use reports to support invoicing.
Reports
Reports let you view, filter, and export your timesheet data.
You can organize reports by date range, project, client, or task, and export them for analysis or billing.
