Focus Time in Google Calendar

Google Workspace includes a built-in Focus Time event type that RescueTime can use to start Focus Sessions automatically.

When a Focus Time event starts, RescueTime begins a Focus Session for the duration of the event. Distracting activities are blocked for the duration of the event.

Google Workspace accounts only. Focus Time is a Google Workspace feature and is not available on personal Google accounts.

How to Set It Up
1

Create a new event

In Google Calendar, click the Create button.

2

Choose Focus time

Select Focus time from the event type options.

3

Fill in the details and save

Set the time, duration, and any other details, then click Save.

Make sure the event is on your own calendar, not the RescueTime calendar. Events on the RescueTime calendar will not trigger a Focus Session.

4

RescueTime starts the session automatically

When the event begins, RescueTime automatically starts a Focus Session for the full duration. Distracting sites and apps are blocked until the event ends.

💡 Prefer to use a hashtag instead? You can also trigger a Focus Session from any calendar event by adding #focustime or #focussession to the event title or description. This works on any Google account, not just Workspace.
