Turn on or off automatic start-up

To ensure RescueTime starts automatically when you turn on your computer we’ve outlined the steps below for enabling this feature on both Windows and Mac.

Windows 

When you install RescueTime you'll have the option to start RescueTime automatically when you turn on or log into your computer.
1. Click Windows+R to open the Run window
2. Type “ shell:startup” into the Open box
3. Click OK
4. This creates a shortcut to RescueTime inside the Startup folder
5. The RescueTime app will now automatically open when you start up your computer
To turn off automatic start-up:
Open Task Manager from the Start menu or press CTRL + ALT + DELETE  > Choose the Startup tab > Find RescueTime > Click the Disable button

macOS

While installing RescueTime, you'll be asked to start RescueTime automatically when you turn on or log into your computer. If you did not choose this option and would like to enable it at a later time, take the following steps:

  1. Open System Settings 
  2. Click on General > Login Items
  3. Click the "+" button and search for the RescueTime folder > click the Open button
  4. The RescueTime app will now automatically open when you start up your computer.

To turn off automatic start up: Click on the RescueTime app and hit the "-" button

Please note: In order for RescueTime to start automatically the app must be moved to the Applications folder.
